What was mostly a dream season for Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings met a nightmarish end on Monday night, with the 14-3 NFC North stalwart’s season ending abruptly in the NFC Wild Card Round at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams handed Darnold and the Vikings a 27-9 rout on Monday, with the former USC signal caller posting a miserable QBR of 13.6 in the one-sided defeat.
With the former Jets, Panthers and 49ers QB set to hit the open market this offseason, it’s worth wondering whether Minnesota will come to a long-term deal with the veteran or opt to use a franchise tag on the 27-year-old, which got us at MinnesotaBets.com thinking about where Darnold goes from here. The Vikings also have first round pick JJ McCarthy waiting in the wings next year - and Darnold's Week 18 performance combined with the playoff effort may force the organization to move off him entirely.
With that in mind, here’s where we see the veteran of 83 NFL games going in 2025. There is no Minnesota sports betting to get a jump on Vikings futures for next season, but stay tuned for more updates in 2025.

Who Signs Darnold Next?
Given Minnesota’s ability to utilize a franchise tag on Darnold, we’re giving the Vikings the driver’s seat when it comes to which NFL team will sign the veteran, with his current employer checking in at +250, ahead of the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants, who are co-listed at +800.
Throw in longshot candidates like the Pittsburgh Steelers (+1000), Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns (+1100 each) and the 49ers (+1250) and you have the full list of NFL teams that we see being in on Darnold this offseason, who made $10 million this season on a one-year deal with the Vikings.
According to the team at Spotrac.com, Darnold’s current market value is $40.1 million, with the sports contract site estimating the veteran to earn a four year deal worth $160.494 million this offseason, ranking 14th in the NFL in terms of salary should such a deal happen in the coming months.
